The Inauguration Of A One Day Training Programme On Rights Of A Child

VIT Chennai in cooperation of National Human Rights Commission, Delhi, conducted a one day training programme on “Rights of Child” last March 15, Friday in Chennai. Dr. N. Sambandam, Pro- Vice Chancellor, welcomed the gathering. Justice K. Venkataraman, former Judge, High Court of Madras, was the chief guest.

In his address he said that, a child abuse has become a mundane reality and everyone should join hands in eradicating it. He quoted William Golding and said “if women are powerful then mothers are more powerful”. So a mother should teach the child about the abuses and should empower them to overcome the evils. Any child brought up in a conducive situation will build the future nation or else he will become a deviant and will create problems to the nation. He requested that educational institutions and media to come forward to provide awareness and educate children on child rights.
After the inauguration, he interacted with the students and asked them to take up the issue seriously and work towards safeguarding the children. Later at the end of the day, the students from various colleges of Chennai were trained by two speakers of the day on the ‘Rights of Child’.
