While we are all proud of our armed forces’ achievements, there should be no attempts to use them for political gains, was the point driven home by Thol Thirumavalavan, president, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). Infodea spoke to him recently to know more in this regard.
We are all proud of what Abhinandan Varthaman has done, he rose our esteem and we are happy that he is from Tamilnadu. However, there should be no support to using his name and his achievements for gaining votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned about this hero in his speeches, he attempted to connect defence officer Abhinandan with Tamilnadu. If Abhinandan is shown as the son of the soil, this will make every Tamilian feel proud. Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems to be an expert in deceiving, he said.
Narendra Modi thinks creating a warlike atmosphere in the country and diverting peoples’ attention from vital issues can help him win elections. There is a strong reminder from people here about the promises made before the previous general elections, many of them are yet to be kept up with.
Inaugurating a few schemes just before the onset of elections will not help him win the admiration of people, he said reminding that the schemes were delayed for four years. Prime Minister Modi’s efforts to build relations with foreign nations have won praises, but nothing much was done for the betterment of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Though a strong Modi wave swept over Tamilnadu during 2014, that is not the situation now. Their prospects are not bright now. Speaking about elections Thirumavalavan further said they have tiedup with DMK, while the decision about area of election contesting is yet to be taken, I wish to contest from Chidambaram, that is my native place and I am confident of emerging victorious from there, he said.
