ICCIBC 2018- An International Conference at Hindustan Institute of Technology & Sciences

A two- day International Conference on Cognitive IOT with Big Data and Cloud (ICCIBC-2018) was inaugurated last October 25 at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science Campus, Chennai. The ICCIBC 2018 was the most comprehensive conference focused on Cognitive IOT, Big Data and Cloud Computing.It was organized by the School of Computing Sciences and MIDARC. MIDARC is Machine Intelligence and Data Analytics Research Centre in Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science which caters the research and incubation of ideas of various research experts.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Jiankun Hu, University of South Wales, Australia. The guest of honour was Mr.Sunil David, Regional Director – IoT (India and ASEAN Region), AT&T Telecommunications. The Chancellor of the University Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese presided the function. The key note address was delivered by Dr. Jeff Foster, Cognitive Scientist, Western Sydney University, Australia. The event were graced by the Vice Chancellor Dr. K.P.Isaac and Director Mr. Ashok Verghese.
The head of the department Dr. Rajeswari Mukesh welcomed the gathering. This conference was conducted by the able guidance of Senior Professor Dr. K.M. Mehata. Dr. D. John Arvind, convener of the conference briefed about the objective of the conference. Dr. Jiankun Hu stated that need for cyber security professionals is on the rise and insisted on need for industries to adopt cyber security standards.
The outcome of the conference led to signing up of two MoUs with the University of South Wales, Australia and Western Sydney University, Australia. The Vice Chancellor stated that Hindustan University of Technology and Science (HITS) will be the first in India to offer a collaborative post graduate programme on Cyber Psychology in collaboration with Western Sydney University. The novelty in this programme is that, faculty from Western Sydney University will come and deliver courses for the students of HITS in India.
The conference provided an opportunity for academic and industry professionals to discuss the research issues and progress in the areas of Big data, IoT, Cloud Computing and Cognitive Sciences.. Also, the conference served as a technical forum to present high – quality papers which were closely related to the various theories and practical applications.And from the massive number of paper submissions, only 140 papers were shortlisted for presentation.
Each paper went through two levels of blind review and strict quality standards were adopted.Key note lectures and presentation sessions related to Cognitive Internet of Thing, Big Data and Cloud Computing were part of the conference. About 85 national and international delegates including students, research scholars and industry representatives from countries such as Malaysia, Canada and USA took part and presented their work in the conference.
The formation of a Cognitive IOT, Big Data and Cloud computing community of researchers both from academia and industry was the prime take away from this conference.
