New Delhi, June 6, 2026: The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has unveiled a formidable 18-member squad for the World Boxing Cup 2026 (Stage 2), set to be held in Guiyang, China, from June 15 to June 21, 2026. Spearheaded by World No. 1 boxer Minakshi and experienced campaigner Deepak, the Indian contingent will look to continue its impressive run on the international boxing circuit.
India enters the prestigious tournament with growing confidence after a series of strong performances in previous World Boxing Cup stages and World Championship events. The country’s consistent medal-winning displays have reinforced its reputation as one of the fastest-rising forces in global boxing.
India Emerging as a Global Boxing Powerhouse
The latest world rankings underline India’s rapid progress on the international stage. The nation currently ranks third globally in terms of overall Top 10 ranked athletes, while securing the second position in women’s boxing and fourth place in men’s boxing. Notably, India leads the world in the number of women boxers ranked among the Top 3 globally, showcasing its dominance in the women’s division.
The upcoming World Boxing Cup presents another crucial opportunity for Indian boxers to earn valuable ranking points and strengthen their positions ahead of major international competitions.
BFI President Ajay Singh Confident of Strong Showing
Speaking about the squad selection, BFI President Ajay Singh expressed confidence in the team’s preparations and depth across weight categories.
“The World Boxing Cup is an important platform for our athletes to test themselves against top international competition. The systems and structures we have put in place are now consistently translating into results, with strong performances across weight categories. We are seeing depth like never before, and this consistency is helping India establish itself as one of the leading boxing nations in the world,” he said.
Minakshi Headlines Women’s Team
Leading India’s women’s challenge is World No. 1 Minakshi in the 51kg category. She will be joined by a talented lineup featuring Poonam (54kg), Prachi (57kg), Mahi Lama (60kg), Saneh (65kg), Gitimoni G (70kg), Sanamacha C (75kg), Naina (80kg) and Alfiya Tarannum Akram Khan Pathan (+80kg).
The squad combines international experience with emerging talent, providing India with strong medal prospects across multiple weight divisions.
Deepak Leads Experienced Men’s Squad
In the men’s division, veteran boxer Deepak (70kg) will provide leadership and experience. The team also includes Rishi S (50kg), Nikhil (55kg), Anmol (60kg), Abhinash Jamwal (65kg), Malsawmtluanga (80kg), Jugnoo (85kg), Harsh Choudhary (90kg) and Sawan G (+90kg).
The balanced squad reflects India’s growing depth in men’s boxing and its ambition to challenge for top honors in Guiyang.
