Gulabo Sitabo is a 2020 Hindi language comedy-drama film directed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar. Legends like Amitabh Bachhan and Ayushman Khurana are in the lead roles of this movie which is set in Lucknow.
The film was made to release in theatres only like others, but because of the COVID pandemic it was broadcasted on Amazon Prime Video worldwide on June 12, 2020.
The movie starts from a Palace in a city of Nawabs named Fatima Palace which is named after Begum Fatima who will soon turn 95. She got this Palace from her Grandfather in Inheritance. And she was in deep dying love with this Palace.
Just because of this Palace she refused to marry with Abdul whom she loved because she has a lot of memories attached to this palace and didn’t want to leave this palace but he was not ready to become a house husband and wanted to take Fatima away with him to London after marriage.
Then Fatima married Mirza sahib (Amitabh Bachhan) who was 17 years younger Fatima in terms of age, just because he was ready to become a househusband.

Mirza sahib doesn’t have any kid, nor is he getting as well what he wants is just that Fatima Palace, he is a greedy fellow. Some renters also live in this Palace Mishra Ji, Saiyad Uncle, and Baakein Rustogi (Ayushman Khurana).
All the renters pay Rs. 70 as monthly rent, but Rustogi pays only Rs. 30, and whenever Mirza Sahab asks him to increase rent he replies rudely. The Rastogi family consists of Baakein, his mother, and three sisters. For taking care of Fatima Begum a girl comes named Fozia who is having an affair with Baakein Rastogi.
Mirza sahib wants to throw Baakein and his family out of the palace as they have been living there for the last 70 years. One day Baakein broke the bathroom wall of the palace, and Mirza sahib complained about this to the police.
Police couldn’t do anything but one of the members from the Archaeology Department named Gyaani Shukla had his eyes on the Palace and wanted to declare the palace a historic monument. For the same, he is checking the samples from the palace in his lab and has promised Baakein and other renters to provide them with a flat once the palace is declared historic.
On the other Mirza, sahib met Christopher who gave him an offer to sell the palace in 5 lakhs which was a very big amount for mirza sahib and got ready to sell the palace without knowing the fact that, the cost of the palace was in crores.
To sell the palace, Christopher asked him to take the signature of all the family members of Fatima and Fatima as well. But he made a mistake. He had to take a thumbprint of Fatima’s left thumb but he took off his right one. And the next day when he went to take a thumbprint Fatima was more careful and wrapped a cloth in her hands.
The twist comes in a story when Shukla came to occupy the palace, but Fatima went away with Abdul Rahman her lover and left a letter that she has sold the palace to Abdul in Rs. 1, automatically all the renters and mirza sahib has to leave the palace. This was somewhere the result of mirza sahib’s greedy nature.
The movie overall is fun and full of comedy. Amitabh Bachhan and Ayushman Khurana already being a fantastic actor have done great job in the movie
