General elections are over and now time to focus on development issues has arrived. Amidst this, parliamentarians who were elected from Tamilnadu spoke on issues that need attention and their welfare plans for their constituencies.

Education, drinking water scarcity and employment generation will be issues for focus, says Navaskani, who got elected as a member of parliament for Ramanathapuram from IUML. I focused on the same issues during the election campaign, he says reiterating that people have trusted him and made him their representative.

‘I am grateful for the trust they have imposed on me and want to focus on faster redressal of grievances, he says. Desalination plants installed in the constituency for water supply is not working. We will make efforts to renovate the plant at the earliest even as plans exist to establish another desalination unit.

Similarly, there is no medical college in the area, I wish to make efforts towards establishing one. Much has been spoken about the welfare of fishermen and farmers but little has been done in that regard, efforts will be taken up to ensure their welfare also. Roads in the constituency are in need of attention. While good roads are required for smooth transportation, the intention is to improve the condition of the roads.

Kanyakumari

Availability of water and employment will get attention, says H Vasanthakumar of Indian National Congress (INC) who gets elected as a member of parliament for Kanyakumari in the recent general elections.

The constituency was represented by former union minister Pon Radhakrishnan, however, nothing much was done to address these issues.

Employment remains a crucial issue, plans are to start a factory in the constituency with an aim to provide employment to the unemployed.

We intend to organize job fairs also so that those who don’t have jobs can find employment. It is common for the fishermen of the area to get stuck in the mid-sea, there should be helipad at a vital location in the constituency so that help could be made quickly available to the fishermen stranded in the sea.

Water scarcity in the area is also an issue to be addressed. We are prepared to hold discussion with neighboring Kerala also if required, he says. These issues will be raised in the parliament also. We will try to resolve these issues even if we don’t get any help, he reminds.
