On July 11, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a new population policy for the years 2021-2030, with the goal of incentivizing people to help with population reduction, claiming that the state’s policy has considered the needs of all communities.
“I am pleased to implement the state’s Population Policy 2021-2030 today,” CM Adityanath said as he revealed the policy on World Population Day, which is observed every year on July 11.
“Increasing population can be an obstacle in the road of development,” the chief minister stated during the policy’s unveiling. In Population Policy 2021-2030, every community has been taken care of.”
A population control measure has also been proposed by the state government’s law commission. People with more than two children in the state will be forbidden from participating local body elections, seeking for government positions, or getting any type of subsidy, according to the bill’s draught posted on the UP State Law Commission (UPSLC) website.
The draft bill also forbids such people from being promoted in government posts, while rewarding those who limit their offspring to two.
The proposal goes on to argue that in order to promote sustainable development with more equitable distribution, the state’s population must be controlled and stabilised.
The public is asked to provide suggestions to enhance the draft bill, and the deadline is July 19.
According to the state’s law commission website, the terms of the proposed legislation titled The Uttar Pradesh Population (Control, Stabilization, and Welfare) Bill, 2021 will take effect one year after it is published in the Gazette. The provisions of this legislation will apply to a married couple with a boy under the age of 21 and a girl under the age of 18.
