Priyanka Gandhi Sits on Dharna in Lucknow, Says Yogi Govt Indulging in Violence After Poll Loss

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, General Secretary of AICC and head of UP, arrived in Lucknow on Friday, on a 3-day schedule, and sat outside the GPO in Hazratganj, the capital, for a silent protest against the UP Government. Priyanka stated that in the panchayat polls the Yogi government lost severely, which is why the administration and police have been abusing now and have committed violence.

Priyanka Gandhi spoke to UPCC Mall Avenue reporters this Friday night: “The constitution in India is demolished and democracy in Uttar Pradesh is being killed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in UP last day and awarded Yogi Ji a certificate saying that in the second wave of corona, UP has been doing well. He stated Vikasvad was now in UP, as well. What is this type of Vikasvad?”

“At the time of the second wave of corona, you were busy having panchayat elections; teachers, police officers, and many others who were elected on duty perished in large numbers because of corona. But, the government went through with the elections because they believed the results would be favourable to them; however, now that the results are not favourable, they are abusing the police and administration. People are being kidnapped, many are being denied the right to file nominations, women’s clothing is being ripped, the administration is threatening people, and the government is engaging in violence. People can see everything, and the UP administration has failed, which is why violence has been used.”

Priyanka Gandhi attacked the UP government for alleged mismanagement during the second wave of corona, saying, “There was no facility at all during the second wave of corona, but the PM is issuing certifications claiming the UP government did well during the second wave.” They have sunk to a new low in their attempt to eliminate democracy, but we are here to defend democracy and the people. On the topic of female safety, the PM lauds Yogi Ji, but we have all seen what’s going on; nothing has been done, and we’ve protested for women’s protection several times. It appears like Modi Ji is behind the UP-government’s use of violence.”

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is in Lucknow on a three-day tour and met with a farmer’s delegation at the UPCC headquarters on Friday evening. She will also have closed-door talks with UPCC executives as well as former MPs, MLAs, and district level office bearers. The visit is being interpreted as an effort to complete the Congress party’s strategy ahead of the 2022 state assembly elections.
