The class 12 evaluation criteria -announced by the Tamil Nadu government

The 2020-2021 Plus Two board exams canceled were announced by the government due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The government later constituted a committee comprising officials including the Vice-Chancellor of Madras University, principal secretary of the department of higher education, and the headmasters of schools to submit a report to the government of the system of evaluating marks for students.

On Saturday, June 26, M K Stalin, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister announced the evaluation criteria for class 12 student in the class in the state, allotting 50 percent weightage to class 10 board examination scores(average of the three subjects with high marks)while 20 percent (written in each subject)weightage will be accorded to Plus One board exam and 30 percent will be given to Class 12 internal assessment and practicals. 

The release further added, “Students who felt that they have scored fewer marks as was calculated through this evaluation criteria, shall be given an opportunity to appear for the Class 12 written examination if they wish and the marks they score in the examinations conducted will be declared as final.” 

Accordingly,  the committee recommended the evaluation criteria with different weightage. The chief minister announced how the Plus Two results will be enumerated this year. The students who have failed Class 11 will be granted 35 percent marks. The marks of each student will be calculated in the above manner and published on the Department’s website by July 31 as per the order of the Supreme Court.  Additionally, the government said it would provide an opportunity to the students, who otherwise felt they could have scored more if they had written the exam. Further, the government also said that “The students who feel that they have obtained fewer marks as was calculated through this evaluation criteria will be given an opportunity to appear for the Class 12 written examination if they are not satisfied with the marks provided.”

The exam will be conducted when the pandemic subsides. The timetable for this examination will be announced later.
