Medals adorn ICG personnel, their work gets a pat

Even as the day did not move towards the dusk, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) brimmed with pride as its good work won a praise from Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Esteem of the ICG personnel touched the skies as they received medals in recognition of their services. All this was visible at the investiture ceremony of ICG in Chennai on September 24 at Coast Guard Air Station.

Even before the medals were distributed, Defence Minister inspected a ceremonial guard of honor. Presidents Tatrakshak Medals (PTM) and Tatrakshak Medals (TM) were given.

A total of 61 medals were given away to the personnel and they were one PTM (Gallantry), eight PTM (Distinguished Service), 32 TM (Gallantry) and 20 TM (Meritorious Service).

What makes the awarding of medals so special? These are the recognition Coast Guard personnel get for their acts of bravery, valour and selfless devotion in extreme conditions. Our nation is witnessing commendable growth on all aspects, this requires us to have maritime activity that remains unhindered, said Rajnath Singh.

‘We need to have a round-the-clock vigil, coordination and proactive approach from all agencies in the maritime domain.’ ICG is playing a pivotal role in building the synergy and cohesion of efforts between all stakeholders responsible for ensuring safety and security in our maritime zones.

ICG has become a maritime force to reckon with and is responding to many challenges in the maritime sphere with professionalism and pride, said Rajnath Singh.

Award winners and their families had an opportunity to interact with Union Defense Minister and Director General of ICG as per the service traditions on the occasion.
