Let us keep our enemy guessing was the hint that Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat gave out.
He took sometime to speak to the media in Chennai on September 23 as he visited Officers Training Academy (OTA), the premier institution of Indian Army that trains cadets who would join it as officers. Army chief was asked if there would be action similar to surgical strikes or the air-strikes, he said ‘we cannot say.’
‘We cannot say wether there will be the same activity again.’ And went on to add ‘why should we tell our enemy what we would do or not do, let us keep them guessing as to what would our action be.’ Our relations with our neighbouring country located on the western front of our country are never harmonious, said General Bipin Rawat.
The trouble makers have been making attempts to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir to create problems. At this given point of time there are over 500 terror elements who are waiting to make an effort to penetrate into Jammu and Kashmir.
But we are alert on the border and will not allow their attempts to succeed. Speaking further on situation in Jammu and Kashmir post invalidation of Article 370 he said there was no clampdown.
Aeroplanes have been moving in and out of Srinagar which shows there is passenger movement, if passenger movement is there there should be operation of taxis also. This will not be possible if there is a clampdown, said Chief of Army Staff.
The shops are remaining closed which makes it look like a clampdown, but they are shut due to threats from the terror elements. While shops are closed from the front, they are do sell from the backdoor. All this shows there is movement of goods and people are on the move to procure requirements for day to day living.
Speaking about Indo-China relations, he said there are mechanisms in place to descalate tensions that take place on the border between both the countries.
There is no clarity on LAC as to which part belongs to India and which portion is for China, the perceptions on both sides differ in this regard, which often leads to tense moments between troops of both the nations, but it never descalates.
Speaking about Balakot, General Bipin Rawat said the facility there which trains terror elements has been reactivated. This validates the point that there was some action in the past by Indian Air Force which destroyed the facilities there that trained terrorists, he said.
