HCAS Founder’s Day Celebration

The Hindustan College of Arts and Science celebrated its Founder’s day at the school ground in commemoration of the founder’s 79th natal day Dr. KCG Verghese.

The Principal Dr. S.Thirumagan Deputy Director – Academics Dr. VJ Phillip Vice Principal Mr. Samuel Sampath Kumar staff and students others participated. He traced the doctor’s life who was born in a small village of Kunnam in Kerala along with 13 siblings and came to Madras after finishing his engineering diploma and went to Machilipatnam to earn further education and start the Hindustan Engineering Training Centre (HETC) in 1966.

Welcoming at the gathering is Dr. S.Thirumagan, he said, we are all gathered to commemorate the brithday of Dr.KCG Verghese who magnificently created a wonderful atmosphere for us to be here in HCAS and without him it would not have been possible. We will be also celebrating 25th year of Silver jubilee of the college in a few months from now, he said.

The Vice Principal, Mr. Samuel Sampath Kumar read out portions from Dr. KCG Verghese’s autobiography Wheels and Wings who said about the former CM MG Ramachandran. He narrated how the then CM an after whom a big hall is named in Hindustan campus who was very friendly to Dr. KCG Verghese when he went to see him who was with famed actor MN Nambiar who offered him idlis and sambar to eat to finalise the deal. Dr KCG Verghese also mentions of iron lady of Britan Mrs. Margaret Thatcher and his interactions with her in this autobiography

The Deputy Director Dr. VJ Philip spoke on negativeness of selfishness that plagues people and showed the life of Dr. KCG Verghese as a role model to emulate for students and said time is ripe for students to excel in all ways as Dr. KCG Verghese did.

Mrs. Jayanthi Margaret HOD ECS department proposed a vote of thanks thanking everyone for making the affair a great success.
