MS-Karaikkal Exp gets Utkrishted

Kamban Express that moves between Chennai Egmore and Karaikal was the centre of attraction at Egmore station on 30 August. For many passengers at Egmore station, sight of Kamban Express is nothing new, for it has been running for about 10 years now. 

But when the train wore an elegant new look with  refurbished new rakes under phase 2 of Project Utkrisht and made its maiden run from Egmore towards Karaikal people there did not hesitate to shower praises wholeheartedly.

The train made the run soon after it was flagged off by N. Mani, a senior technician from Carriage and Wagon Depot, Chennai Egmore who will be superannuating this month.

Chennai division of Southern Railway has inducted Utkrisht coaches for Karaikal Express to enhance passenger comfort. This rake coaches were upgraded at the Carriage Works, Perambur, Loco Works, Perambur and Goldenrock Workshop, Ponmalai.

Train No. 16175 Chennai Egmore  – Karaikal Express has 23 upgraded Utkrisht coaches that include  one first AC cum two tier, one AC two tier, Three 3-Tier AC and nine sleeper coaches, six general coaches and three guard vans. The refurbished coaches have better amenities. The toilets in this train have been provided with epoxy flooring for better aesthetics and longer lifespan.

It ensures proper floor level with slope to stop water stagnating on the floor. Eco friendly bio-tanks have been fitted in all utkrisht coaches with ventilation system for fresh air circulation in wash rooms. A separate stainless steel dustbin for toilets is placed for all the coaches.
