SRM Celebrates International Women’s Day

Even though we know that gender parity won’t happen overnight, the good news is that with each rising day women are making positive gains globally. This year’s theme of International Women’s day“Press for Progress”was not only to celebrate women but also to motivate, unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.
The Women’s Grievances Redressal Committee (WGRC) of SRM Institute of Science and Technology identified the best-knownwoman achieverSmt. Vanathi Srinivasan, General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Partyto be the chief guest for the International Women’s day celebration at Dr. T. P. Ganesan Auditorium, SRM,and Kattankulathurto grace the students with her presence at the ceremony.
The special guests of honour were,Mrs. Meenu Subbiah, Director, M/S. Meenu Subbiah Diamonds LLP and Ms. Shruthi Nagarajan, Professional Indian Woman Racer.
The celebration started with the traditional Bharatanatyam performance by the students of SRMIST. Dr. N. Chandraprabha, Director of Medical &Health Sciences delivered the welcome address highlighting the ‘Theme of International Women’s day 2018: Press for Progress”.
Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar, Hon’bleChancellor, SRM IST gave presidential address, which was followed by felicitations from Dr.Sandeep Sancheti, Vice Chancellor and Dr. N. Sethuraman, Registrar, Dr. T. P. Ganesan, Pro-Vice Chancellor was witnessing the grant event.
Female faculties and student members, who had participated in various events and sports, were awarded in addition to this , assistive devices such as hearing aids and TLM (Teaching Learning Material) kits were distributed to the special children by NIEPMD (National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities).The Vice-Chairman, WGRC Dr. E. Poovammal,delivered the vote of thanks. The grand function with enthusiastic audience conducted truly turned out tobe an inspiring element to the women.
