Let’s now learn about our new currency
To get rid of black money and to cut terror funding, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes are being withdrawn from November 8, 2016.
The old ₹500 notes has replaced by new ones and ₹2,000 notes has been introduced, instead of the ₹1,000 note.

Features of the new ₹2,000 notes:
Observe:
- See through register with denominational numeral 2000 can be seen when the note is held against light
- Latent image with denominational numeral 2000, which can be seen when the banknote is held at an 45 degree angle to the eye level
- Denominational numeral 2000 in Devanagari script
- Portrait of Mahatma Gandhi in the centre
- Micro letters ‘RBI’ and ‘2000’
- Colour shift windowed security thread with inscriptions ‘Bharat’, RBI and 2000. Colour of the thread changes from green to blue when the note is tilted
- Guarantee clause, RBI Governor’s signature with promise clause and RBI emblem towards the right
- Mahatma Gandhi portrait and electrotype (2000) watermarks
- Number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side
- Ashoka Pillar emblem on the right
For the visually impaired:
- Raised printing of Mahatma Gandhi portrait and Ashoka Pillar emblem
- Horizontal rectangle with Rs. 2,000 in raised print on the right
- Seven angular bleed lines on the left and right sides in raised print.

- Year of printing on the note
- Swachh Bharat logo with slogan
- Language panel towards the centre
- Motif of Mangalyan – reflecting the country’s first venture in the interplanetary space
- The new notes are of the size 66mm X 166mm, smaller than the old notes, and will be available in a magenta base colour
