Talk is all about polls

According to sources about 1587 nominations were receieved for Loksabha polls in Tamilnadu and about 518 nominations were obtained for assembly bypolls in the state. The last date to withdraw nominations is March 28 this year.

1587 nominations for LS polls, 518 for assembly bypolls

The general elections will be held in a few days from now, needless to say that has become the talk of the town. There is a valid reason for the parliamentary elections to command everyone’s attention, for it is through these polls that person to lead the nation would be elected. 
According to sources about 1587 nominations were receieved for Loksabha polls in Tamilnadu and about 518 nominations were obtained for assembly bypolls in the state. The last date to withdraw nominations is March 28 this year. Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said after analysis, about 652 nominations for parliament elections were rejected, about 932 nominations stood valid.
He further said while out of 518 nominations received for assembly bypolls, about 213 were rejected and 315 nominations stood valid. Nilgiris was the constituency to receive lowest number nominations, he said. While 10 nominations were obtained from Nilgiris, highest number of nominations were obtained from Karur. About 43 nominations were received from there.
Perambur assembly constituency stood on the top as 51 nominations were received for assembly bypolls, Gudiyattam  was the constituency that received less nominations. Only eight nominations were obtained from there, he said. 
Speaking more, chief electoral officer informed that about Rs 50.70 crore were seized post implementation of code of conduct. About 223.5 kilos of gold, 346.7 kilos of silver were apprehended, he said. The precious metals is estimated to be a worth Rs 69 crores in the market. 
About 44 cases have been registered for violation of rules in various issues. More number of cases were registered on independent candidates. About 17 cases were registered on them, 10 were registered on DMK, nine were on AIADMK. 
When asked about pressure cooker symbol not being allotted to TTV Dinakaran, he said pressure cooker symbol no, he said the symbols would allotted to those parties who dont have them after return of nominations.
