Navy’s hats off to IYD

The ancient health science of India got a big salute from the defence establishment of this nation. Yoga camp was organised for naval personnel under the aegis of Headquarters, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area (HQTNP) at the Navy Beach on 21 June. 

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were also invited to join the endeavour organised to mark International Yoga Day.  About 500 naval and 200 CISF personnel participated in the event. Rear Admiral KJ Kumar VSM, Flag Officer Commanding, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area was the chief guest. 

A pledge to make yoga an integral part of daily life was also taken on the occasion while Isha Foundation from Coimbatore conducted the yoga camp. Personnel were introduced to various asanas, pranayams and conditioning practices.

The participants benefitted from the discourses on virtues of Yoga, its integration into daily life to suit modern sociological needs and lifestyle for sustained good health and stress free life.

All units under HQTNP namely INS Parundu at Ramnathpuram, PTC at Kalpakkam, Naval detachments at Rameshwaram, Nagapattinam, Vellichai and Avadi also conducted the event enthusiastically.

NCC unit 
Naval NCC unit of Tamilnadu too did not stay behind when it came to celebrating International Yoga Day with great fervour.  The 1 (TN) Naval Unit NCC celebrated yoga day on 21 June at military ground near secretariat complex inside Fort Saint George in Chennai. 

A total of 500 NCC cadets participated in the event. Commodore Malay K Kukreti, Deputy Director General, NCC Directorate (TN, P and AN) was the chief guest. The event conducted by Dr. S Vikram, a renowned yoga master.
