Sports competitions for fishermen and students

For school students and members of fishermen community in Chennai it was time for them to play and show their hold on the game. The sixth in series volleyball tournament for them was held from 21 to 22 January to mark the 43rd Raising Day of Indian Coast Guard which is celebrated every year on 1 February.
According to sources from Defence Ministry, a total of 21 teams comprising 13 teams of fishermen, eight teams of girls from schools took part in the tournament that was inaugurated by Jayawardhan, member of Parliament, South Chennai on 21 January. The tournament began after motivational speech of Jayawardhan.
He asked the participants to study the life and achievements of great sports persons. Lets learn from their life and get inspired to pursue our goals with a spirit of perseverance, he said.
The tournament was played on knock out basis, Sea Birds and Choolai Friends were adjudged winners of the tournament for men and women teams respectively. Inspector General Sivamani Paramesh, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (East) graced the finals of the tournament as chief guest and presented the trophies to the winning teams.
