The Highlanders from North-east United are keen to sign a head coach with experience in ISL (Indian Super League). They are looking for some familiar names to take their managerial hot seat for the next ISL season.
According to the reports, Khel now understands that former Chennaiyin FC head coach John Gregory is on the hit list of Northeast United. Due to John’s past success in leagues, he is the front-runner to take up the hot seat in the Northeast United.
Having guided Chennaiyin FC to the ISL title in 2017-18 and also taking charge of the club in their first-ever participation in AFC Cup, where they performed very well and just missed by bit for knockouts, Gregory seems to be the highly experienced option to the highlanders.
Though he has performed well in 2017-18 since his performance in 2018-19 was not very good with Chennaiyin FC, saw him walking away from the job.
Former Mumbai City FC boss Jorge Costa is also in the hit list of Northeast United competing Gregory. Costa has shown excellent performance with Mumbai City FC and also has a respectable record at ISL. So, he has been considered in the top options by Northeast United.
Costa was quite more successful as Mumbai City FC head coach and has even taken them to qualify for the playoffs in the 2018-19 season.
Though, Costa’s salary demand is higher than that of Gregory, which may force highlanders to stick with Gregory only.
