School from Namakkal wins the trophy

It was not an easy thing for the school students, they had to vie hard with one another and race against all odds to emerge as winners. Goethe Super League’18, football tournament jointly organised by Goethe – Institut/Max Muller Bhavan in association with Rotary Club of Madras East recently where 32 girls teams and 64 boys teams took part had been a witness to that competitive spirit.
The things were not that easy as 1440 participants from 96 schools registered for the match totally. The moment of pride was for Goverment Girls Higher Secondary School in Namakkal district as it won the trophy in the girls team, for boys team the trophy was won by Carmel Garden Higher Secondary School in Coimbatore. 
 
P.S. Senior Secondary School (Girls) in Chennai won the second place and Annai Velankanni Higher secondary School (boys) in Madurai got the second place. Chennai became the venue for conducting the grand finale and prize distribution. 
winners got prizes from Mrs. Karin Stoll, Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany and the guest of honor was Mr K.S. Duraimurugan, former MLA. 
Mr. Prabhakar Narayan, head of language department at Goethe Institut said teams said winners got to taste success after a good deal of effort. He also said they intend to make this league a pan India affair by 2020 and work has already begun in this regard. 
Goethe Super League was an initiative that started in 2015 and was conducted only in Chennai. This year it was made a zonal level tournament, what made it unique. It went on from 1 to 24 August. R.M.Narayan, President, Rotary Club of Madras East and Helmut Schippert, Director, Goethe Institut were also present during the prize distribution.
