Indian Railways records a big achievement in freight loading

Indian Railways has once again prove its mettle by surpassing last year’s cumulative freight loading way before the year end.

In spite of Covid challenges, on 11 March 2021, Indian Railways achieved cumulative freight loading of 1145.68 million tonnes which is higher as compared to last year’s total cumulative loading of 1145.61 million tonnes.

Indian RailwaysOn a month to month basis as well, as on 11 March, the loading for the month of March 2021 is 43.43 million tonnes, which is 10% higher as compared to last year’s loading for the same period.

Freight figures continue to maintain the high momentum in terms of loading and speed in the month of March 2021 as well for Indian Railways.

On day to day basis, on 11 March 2021, the freight loading of Indian Railways was 4.07 million tonnes, which is 34% higher compare to last year’s loading for the same date which was 3.03 million tonnes.

The average speed of freight trains of Indian Railways in the month of March 2021 till 11 March was 45.49 kmph which is almost double compare to last year for the same period which was 23.29 kmph.

It is worth mentioning that a number of concessions/discounts are also being given in Indian Railways to make Railways Freight movement very attractive.

Strong emergence of Business Development Units in zones and divisions, constant dialogue with the industry and logistics service providers, faster speed etc are adding to the robust growth of freight business for the Railways.

It may be noted that COVID 19 has been used by Indian Railways as an opportunity to improve all-round efficiencies and performances.

Train services extended
South Eastern Railway of Indian Railways has announced extension of festival special trains.

The details of the trains whose service is extended by South Eastern Railway of Indian Railways is given below:

Weekly special trains
1. Train No. 02877 Howrah – Ernakulam Weekly Festival Special Train on Saturdays will be extended on 3,10,17,24 April (4 trips)

2. Train No. 02878 Ernakulam – Howrah Weekly Festival Special Train on Mondays will be extended on 5,12,19,26 April (4 trips)

3. Train No.02867 Howrah – Puducherry Weekly Festival Special Train on Sundays will be extended on 4,11,18,25 April and 2,9,16,23,30 May and 6,13,20 and 27 June (13 trips)

4. Train No.02868 Puducherry – Howrah Weekly Festival Special Train on Wednesdays will be extended on 7,14,21,28 April and 5,12,19,26 May and 2,9,16,23 and 30 June (13 trips)

5. Train No 02835 Hatia – Yesvantpur Weekly Festival Special Train on Tuesdays will be extended on 30 March and 6,13,20,27 April and 4,11,18,25 May and 1,8,15,22 June (13 trips)

6. Train No 02836 Yesvantpur – Hatia Weekly Festival Special Train on Thursdays will be extended on 1,8, 15,22,29 April and 6,13,20,27 May and 3,10,17,24 June (13 trips)

Indian RailwaysDaily Special Trains

1. Train No. 02873 Howrah – Yesvantpur Daily Special Train Special will be extended to run from 30 March to 28 June (91 Trips)

2. Train No. 02874 Yesvantpur – Howrah Daily Special Train Special will be extended to run from 1 April to 30 June (91 Trips)

Reservation for the above special trains have opened from 8 am of 13 March from Southern Railway end.

More trains
As of now, 28 pairs of Workmen Specials are being operated during Sundays in Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) section connecting Chennai Beach – Velachery stations from 14 March onwards.

MRTS is a unit of Southern Railways of Indian Railways.

In order to cater the travel needs of essential service staff of central and state governments, other organizations and extra crowd travelling on Sundays in Workmen Specials in MRTS route, an additional 20 pair of services are being introduced.

The revised schedule of workmen specials with additional services (to a total of 48 pairs) on Sundays will be effective from 14 March (Sunday) onwards.

Indian RailwaysTemporary augmentation
Southern Railway of Indian Railways has decided to temporarily augment some trains with additional coaches for the convenience of reserved passengers.

As per the measure by Southern Railway of Indian Railways, the trains to receive additional coaches are given below:

1) Train No. 02617 Ernakulam Jn – Hazrat Nizamuddin Daily Special Train will be augmented with one additional sleeper coach with effect from 12 March to 28 May.

2) Train No.02618 Hazrat Nizamuddin – Ernakulam Jn Daily Special Train will be augmented with one additional sleeper coach with effect from 15 March to 31 May.

3) Train No. 06605 Mangalore Junction – Nagercoil Jn Daily Special Train will be augmented with one additional general second class coach with effect from 14 March to 30 May.

4) Train No. 06605 Nagercoil Junction – Mangalore Jn. daily special train will be augmented with one additional general second class coach with effect from 15 March to 31 May.

5) Train No. 06304 Thiruvananthapuram Central – Ernakulam Junction Daily Special Train will be augmented with one second class chair car and two general second class coaches with effect from 12 March to 27 May.

6) Train No. 06303 Ernakulam Jn – Thiruvananthapuram Central daily special train will be augmented with one second class chair car and two general second class coaches with effect from 16 March to 31 May.

7) Train No. 06305 Ernakulam Jn. – Kannur Daily Special Train will be augmented with One – Second Class Chair Car and Two – General Second Class Coaches with effect from 13th March to 28th May, 2021.

8) Train No. 06306 Kannur – Ernakulam Jn. Daily Special Train will be augmented with One – Second Class Chair Car and Two – General Second Class Coaches with effect from 15th March to 30th May, 2021.

9) Train No. 06308 Kannur – Alappuzha Daily Special Train will be augmented with One – Second Class Chair Car and Two – General Second Class Coaches with effect from 14th March to 29th May, 2021.

10) Train No. 06307 Alapppuzha – Kannur Daily Special Train will be augmented with One – Second Class Chair Car and Two – General Second Class Coaches with effect from 14th March to 29th May, 2021.
