Nailing the wrongdoers is the aim
It is better to stay prepared to meet the challenges and that is what Railway Protection Force (RPF) is doing. The force is now making rapid progress in empowering itself technologically. Changing situations on the passenger security front has motivated the force to look at ways to better its combat capacity.
With technology being an effective tool to battle problems posed to passengers and railway establishments, the force is making efforts to gain hold on that. We are making our forces adept to solving problems in a shorter duration, says Birendra Kumar, principal chief security commissioner, RPF.
Gone are the days when people had to wait till the next station to lodge complaints, and wait for days for redressal of grievances, he reminds. We will be equipping the RPF staff in Southern Railway with technological gadgets. Personnel in intelligence wing of RPF will be getting pen cameras, instruments will be distributed as per the instructions of Railway Board.
These equipments will enable the force to see, record events taking place infront of them without much effort, says Birendra Kumar. Information procured using pen cameras can enable us to nab wrong doers effectively.
About 26 pen cameras would be distributed in the first phase. Audio recording devices will also be supplied, this will be able to record the audio at places of the incident.
Bodywired cameras too will be distributed among the personnel who provide escort to trains to have an eye on the happenings inside the trains. In the first phase about 26 bodywired cameras will be circulated among the personnel. The plans are to provide the equipments at the end of 2018-19. Advanced gadgets like nightvision equipments will be provided in the next financial year, he says.
It was in 2018, RPF personnel working in North Eastern Railway were provided with the techonological equipments, using which we could regulate wrong happenings to a great extent. Cyber cell has been provided in Southern Railway, which will focus on cyber related wrongdoings, cyber team has been provided a software that can analyse call details also, focus will be to equip the force with modern equipments so that its efficiency in tackling wrong happenings will improve many times.
