Herbal teas during pregnancy, are safe?

Many herbal teas are a great alternative to black tea and coffee, some of which can be beneficial to your health during pregnancy. Herbal teas are naturally caffeine-free and many come in a variety of flavors so you can get a positive result for your health. Anything with black tea will have caffeine which is something most pregnant women should try to avoid. This includes chai, black tea and flavored black tea as well. Herbal teas or supplements can also be risky if they contain stimulants like guarana or betel nut, or herbs and extract such as goldenseal, black walnut, wormwood and pennyroyal. And most thing one pregnant woman should remember before trying any other herbal tea or supplements check your healthcare provider to make sure that what you’re taking is safe for your pregnancy or not.

Is Tea Safe During Pregnancy?

Some well-known herbal teas that you should consider during pregnancy include mint, ginger and cinnamon these herbs have anti-nausea properties and can help digestion. Ginger and cinnamon can help to warm you up while mint can help to cool you down, second is nettle they are packed with nutrients. high in vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin B, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron. It is used in many pregnancy teas because it is a great all-around pregnancy tonic, next is Dandelion leaf it helps fluid retention, something many pregnant women struggle with, especially if heavily pregnant in the warmer month and also it is rich in calcium, vitamin A and iron. Some teas are prepared especially for pregnancy and claim to help with complications like pre-eclampsia and prepare your body for labour. Herbal teas are made from the roots, berries, flowers, seeds, and leaves of plants. Unlike black or green tea, they don’t contain caffeine so they are much safer than other teas. A cup of chamomile tea before bed may relax you, but again, avoid drinking large quantities. The best advice is to drink 1 or 2 cups of herbal tea in a day don’t consume in high quantity and don’t drink the same herbal tea continually throughout your pregnancy. Never make your herbal tea from plants you’ve collected while you are pregnant because sometimes large amounts of some herbs may start contractions and increase your risk of preterm labour, or they may affect your baby so it’s better to take the doctor advice always before consuming anything while pregnancy.
