NHS in Britain celebrates 70th anniversary

Time turned colourful in United Kingdom on December 14 as experts in the field of medicine were felicitated in recognition of their contributions with awards. Organised by World Tamil Organisation-UK (WTO-UK), the event also marked 70th birth anniversary of National Health System (NHS).
South asian doctors, especially from the Indian sub-continent are described as the major migrant architects and the life bloods of the NHS. Indian scientist and founder of Thyrocare, a thyroid testing company in India Dr Arokiaswamy Velumani won the lifetime achievement award. 
‘I quit my job and took a huge risk of starting a company, but it was worth it. One must always try to strive and do things differently.’ Carnatic musician and dean of Perambalur Medical College Sirkazhi G Siva Chidambaram got Physician Musicologist award, founder of Healing Little Hearts Dr Sanjiv Nichani received Selfless Elimination of Human Suffering award and Dr Premila Nalini Webster, director of public health education and training at University of Oxford was bestowed Pride to the Profession award.

Doctors from the various other specialities of medicine were also honoured. Healing Little Hearts is an organisation that conducts cardiac surgery charity camps in India, Africa and Asia. Chairman of WTO Jacob Ravibalan said the objective behind the felicitation was to honour those who have a long record of commendable services to the field of medicine.
Project lead of WTO Dr Prabhu Rajendran said they have been associated with NHS for the last 15 years. NHS worked hard every moment to transform health and well-being of United Kingdom. Virendra Sharma MP, Lord Anderson and Baroness Prashar were among those present.
