In response to the Centre’s claim that there were no deaths owing to oxygen scarcity during the second wave, Union rural development minister Giriraj Singh branded senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi “brainless” in Italian on Tuesday.
“I’d say this prince lacked intellect back then, misses it now, and will always miss it. The states oversee compiling these listings. You can instruct your party’s governors to submit revised lists. Until then, stop lying, “Singh said in a tweet, referring to Gandhi’s “Italian” ancestry.
After Gandhi tweeted, “It wasn’t only the absence of air,” the union minister reacted. There was a great lack of compassion and honesty back then, and it’s still there now.”
During the second Covid-19 wave, no deaths owing to a shortage of oxygen were explicitly recorded by states and UTs, the Centre said in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. However, during the second wave, demand for medical oxygen soared to over 9000 MT, up from 3095 MT in the first wave, prompting the Centre to intervene to ensure equal distribution across the states, according to the report.
