Delhi to give ‘free sanitary napkins’ in schools

As the film ‘Padman’ taught us about the importance of ‘sanitary pads’ in India and the lack of awareness we have in our country, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation in Delhi is considering it as an important aspect in the Municipal budget designed in the capital for the year 2018-19.
On asking about the new initiative, The Leader of House in SDMC Smt. Shikha Rai said, “SDMC is bringing awareness on physical cleanliness to the girls studying in all primary schools”.
In the course of this new scheme which is to be implemented in the government schools in South Delhi area, the doctors and other health personnel will be invited to schools to counsel the girls to take care during their periods, which the leader of the house believes, will not only help in girls to attend school during their menstruation cycle but will also make them confident to remain normal every day.
Pointing out the issue of low attendance in school because of the periods and awareness of keeping themselves hygienic and clean, SDMC has taken this step to provide sanitary napkins for free to the girls as it is believed that if assured about getting sanitary napkins in school, the girls would not like to miss their classes and the studies won’t suffer.
