We have identified brands, especially for e-commerce channels. The launches got delayed because of the second wave, but we will introduce them soon,” Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting chief executive Vineet Agrawal said.
Sales through the e-commerce online channel is now contributing around 13% – 14% to Wipro customer care’s overall sales. The company is soon going to launch more e-commerce brands. Although we have identified many brands only for e-commerce websites and channels.
He later said that the company has identified many personal care categories and as an initiative he has launched a new e-commerce first. As an assumption Agrawal said that the company will only invest in digital and online ventures. “This space is getting very attractive. If you can find a company reasonably early, you can get good valuations. We are continuously evaluating opportunities here,” he said. Agrawal said that the company will soon get into the traditional sector as well, but due to COVID-19 all the international deals has been delayed. “We’ll have to wait for acquisitions to pick up the pace,” he said.
The company that manufactures Santoor soaps and Yardley deos, took the prices of the soup about 8% earlier this year but the increase wasn’t enough to offset the inflation of commodities like palm oil. “We have not increased prices in line with commodity inflation. There have been grammage reductions too, in price points like Rs 10, because one can’t really waver from those,” he added. Palm oil is an important ingredient in soap making.
Moreover, he said that the 90% of the labour force in the company is fully vaccinated now and it is keeping a pressure on the distributors to get vaccinated. The impact on the consumption after the second wave was significant. The mindset of the people totally changed after the hit of the second wave. The consumption level of the consumers decreased and people were started conserving the money. Both the Rural and the Urban markets are being effected.
