There have been several programmes implemented over the years to guarantee that benefits reach their intended recipients in a targeted and leak-proof way, with minimal contact points between government officials and the beneficiary. It is this notion of good governance that is advanced by the idea of an electronic voucher.

In the beginning, e-RUPI was only accessible for health services, but it will be expanded to include other segments soon.

As a result, digital governance in the country is taking on a new dimension. To make digital transactions and DBT more successful, the eRUPI voucher will be crucial.

E-RUPI, according to the prime minister, will allow for targeted, transparent, and leakage-free distribution.

Not just the government, but any general organization or organization that wishes to support someone with their treatment, education, or any other job will be able to do so using eRUPI rather than cash, he added.

This would ensure that the money he donates is used for the same purpose for which it was provided, he noted.

e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless digital payment instrument, according to an official statement. It is a QR code or SMS string-based e-voucher that is transmitted to the beneficiaries’ mobile phones.

Customers would be able to redeem the coupon at the service provider without a card, digital payments app, or internet banking access, it added.

According to the National Payments Corporation of India, the app was created in conjunction with the Financial Services Department, Health Ministry, and National Health Authority on the UPI platform.
