Steps to link mobile number with Aadhar card in 2020

Apart from being one of the most prominent sources of document for the Indian Citizens, Aadhar Card has many roles to play. Aadhar card holds a  twelve digit unique identification number issued by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India).

From booking railway tickets to the acquisition of passports to availing government welfare schemes, Aadhar cards have come up as a vulnerable document and carry huge importance for the public.

The government of India has issued various orders to link documents to Aadhar card so that people could directly be benefited from the schemes of the government.

In the year 2017, it was announced from the Govt. of India to link mobile numbers with Aadhar Card. The linking of mobile number to Aadhar card has become mandatory as per the orders of the Supreme Court and the last date for doing so was finalized to be 6th February 2018, although the date was extended later on.

Also, it became mandatory to quote your Aadhar number without which your ITR (Income tax return) will not be processed by the income tax department, and linking your mobile number with Aadhar could also be helpful as you could e verify your ITR using Aadhar.

Also, the main motive behind making this mandatory was to catch people perpetrating illegal activities and also the terrorist organizations that use SIM cards made by fake names and documents.

 Linking mobile numbers with Aadhar has become a necessity, but the question now arises is how to link mobile numbers with Aadhar? The answer to your question as to how to link your mobile number with Aadhar card? could be solved using these simple steps;

If you are linking your mobile number to your Aadhar card for the first time, you got to follow these steps;

Linking mobile numbers to the Aadhar card could be done only through an offline mode since online mode requires a mobile number that has already been registered and just needs to be updated.

  • The documents which you require through the offline mode are a photocopy of Aadhar card, a photocopy of your voter id, or a PAN card. Along with these documents visit your nearest Aadhar center and ask for an Aadhar correction form. Also, you could avail of this by visiting the UIDAI website.
  • Fill the form and submit it to the concerned authority in the Aadhar center. Also, don’t forget to mention in the form that only the Mobile number is to be updated.
  • Attach all the required documents like photocopy of Voter ID or PAN card along with the form.
  • Capturing of biometrics will be done once you are completed with the paperwork which includes facial image, IRIS, and fingerprints capture.
  • After the verification of the biometrics, you will be handed an acknowledgment slip, and the linking of mobile number to Aadhar card will be completed in approximately 10 days as per the norms of the UIDAI.

In order to check is your mobile number is registered with Aadhar or not is to simply visit uidai.gov.in and using the ‘verify email/mobile number link’ and verify if your mobile is linked to your Aadhar or not.

To link a mobile number to Aadhar card online you got to make sure that the previously registered number with the Aadhar is working because the OTP to authenticate the updation will be sent to the existing number. Here are the steps you should follow to update your Aadhar card mobile number;

  • Click on the registration online linked mentioned above.
  • In the UIDAI website, under the Aadhar Update tab there’s an option that will redirect you to the Aadhar self-service portal.
  • Enter your Aadhar number, and the recaptcha option and request for an OTP.
  • Thereafter, an OTP will be sent to your existing mobile number, once you enter it you will be redirected to a new page where you need to enter the required details.
  • Under the Select fields to update, select ‘mobile number ‘
  • Now enter your new mobile number and submit.

To ease the procedure for the public to link mobile numbers with Aadhar Cards, a unique app named IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System) has been made so that people could conveniently link their mobile numbers with Aadhar Card.

The government of India has come up with a single number in order to link Aadhar to SIM using IVRS. The following steps need to be taken in order to link a mobile number to Aadhar Card online through the IVRS;

  • Dial a toll-free number 14546 from your mobile phone.
  • Through Interactive Voice Response Service, you will be asked if you are an Indian or a Foreign National. Press 1 for Indian and press 2 for Foreign National.
  • Furthermore, the IVR would ask the caller to share the 12 digit Aadhar Number.
  • After this, enter your registered mobile number, which gives consent to the operator to pick your photo, name, and date of birth from the UIDAI database.
  • An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number, again in this procedure you need to make sure that your old registered number is working efficiently because the OTP will be sent to that number only.
  • Enter the OTP and submit.
  • After submitting the OTP, The user will be able to change the old mobile number into the new one and will be done with the updation process.
