Defence stands for cleanliness, vouches for reducing plastic

The aim is to reduce plastic imprint on the environment. Indian Coast Guard took this agenda forward through its plogging event at Elliots Beach in Chennai on 7 December.

The event was conducted as part of the 15 day long ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ which is an awareness drive of the Government of India.

The core concept of the event as highlighted by the banners on display at the venue and the placards carried by the participants was ‘Plastic Se Raksha-Swachhta Hi Suraksha’ (Protection from Plastic- Safety in Cleanliness).

The event witnessed participation of people from all walks of life including Coast Guard families. The event was widely accepted by the people frequenting the beach and ensured that a small step by the Coast Guard towards environment protection was a big success.

The event was attended by Inspector General S Paramesh, the Regional Commander for Coast Guard Region East and other senior officers of the Coast Guard in Chennai.

CVRDE
Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) at Avadi in Chennai also stood for Plogging (picking of litter while jogging) on 7 December as part of ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ being celebrated from 1 to 15 December.

The awareness camp was flagged off by V. Balamurugan, director, CVRDE. The drive ‘Plastic Se Raksha-Swachhta hi Suraksha’ started  with playing off  Swachhta Anthem and taking Swachhta Pledge.

About 400 CVRDE personnel including scientists, technical officers participated. They walked about 1.5 km and collected plastic and other wastages.

Banners were carried by the staff members and they also raised slogans to create awareness about the plastic waste. Families of the employees also participated with lot of enthusiasm in the event.
