SRMIST students win chess tournament

The women chess player team of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) had a celebration time recently when they won gold medal in south zone inter university chess tournament for women.

The tournament was held from 22 to 25 November and was organised by Acharya Nagarjuna University (Guntur, Andhra Pradesh). While SRMIST won the finals of the tournament, University of Madras was the runners up, while Bharatiyar University and Anna University secured third and fourth places.SRMIST team defeated Bangalore University with a score of 4-0 in the first round of the tournament. SRMIST won over RGUHS in the second round of the tourney with a score of 4-0.

The third round also saw SRMIST defeating Bharatiyar University with a score of 4-0. Anna University lost to SRMIST in round four with a score of 4-0.
The fifth round saw the match between SRMIST and University of Madras ending in a draw with a score of 2-2.

The sixth and seventh round of the tourney witnessed SRMIST winning over MG University and Ousmania University with a score of 4-0 each time.

SRMIST team has been qualified for All India Inter University Chess Tournament for Women along with University of Madras, Bharatiyar University and Anna University which will be held at KIIT in Bhubaneswar from 18 to 21 January next year.
