Chennai, June 9, 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is set to highlight India’s rapidly growing innovation ecosystem at Bharat Innovates 2026, a prestigious international technology showcase scheduled to be held in Nice, France, from June 14–16, 2026. Organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the event aims to connect India’s most promising technology ventures with global investors, policymakers, industry leaders, research institutions, and technology partners.
As one of India’s leading research institutions, IIT Madras will showcase cutting-edge technologies, strategic research initiatives, and deep-tech startups that are driving the nation’s technological transformation.
IIT Madras to Lead Key Themes at Bharat Innovates 2026
IIT Madras will spearhead two of the event’s 13 thematic areas—Blue Economy and Next-Generation Communications—demonstrating India’s growing capabilities in maritime innovation and future communication technologies.
The institute will also showcase 15 incubated startups and several breakthrough research projects that reflect India’s commitment to indigenous technology development and innovation-driven growth.
Hyperloop Technology: India’s High-Speed Transportation Future
One of the major attractions at the IIT Madras pavilion will be its pioneering work in Hyperloop technology. Recognized as India’s Centre of Excellence for Hyperloop Technology by the Ministry of Railways, IIT Madras has been actively developing next-generation transportation solutions through its incubated startup, TuTr Hyperloop.
The startup has successfully demonstrated critical technologies including Linear Induction Motor propulsion, Electromagnetic Levitation systems, and vacuum tube operations at the IIT Madras Discovery Campus. Researchers are also exploring practical applications for metro rail systems and cargo transportation at ports.
Advancing 5G and 6G Communications for a Digital India
IIT Madras will present its extensive work in indigenous 5G and 6G technologies, developed in collaboration with government-supported initiatives under the Department of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The transition from 5G to 6G is expected to revolutionize communication networks through ultra-low latency, intelligent automation, distributed artificial intelligence, and advanced sensing capabilities. India’s large-scale digital ecosystem provides an ideal testing ground for validating next-generation communication technologies.
Startups such as REIO Systems, Astrome Technologies, and WiSig Networks will demonstrate innovative solutions including software-defined radio platforms, wireless backhaul systems, and Open RAN-based 5G infrastructure.
Blue Economy Innovations Driving Sustainable Maritime Growth
With over 7,500 kilometers of coastline and strategic maritime assets, India’s Blue Economy presents significant opportunities for sustainable growth. IIT Madras is promoting technologies that support shipping, logistics, offshore energy, marine biotechnology, and ocean sustainability.
Planys Technologies, an IIT Madras-incubated startup, is leveraging robotics, remotely operated vehicles, autonomous systems, and artificial intelligence to inspect underwater infrastructure. The technology enhances safety, extends asset life, and reduces environmental risks in maritime and offshore industries.
Another promising startup, Zerocircle, is developing seaweed-based biodegradable materials as a sustainable alternative to plastic packaging. Its PFAS-free and microplastic-free products can be integrated into existing manufacturing systems without major infrastructure modifications.
Lab-Grown Diamond Technologies for Authentication and Traceability
The Indian Centre for Lab Grown Diamonds (InCent LGD) at IIT Madras will showcase innovative laser-based technologies capable of embedding invisible QR codes, logos, and customized markings within lab-grown diamonds without affecting their clarity or structural integrity.
These advancements offer significant opportunities for authentication, anti-counterfeiting, and supply chain traceability within the global diamond industry. Researchers are also exploring applications in semiconductor technology, radiation detection, and quantum computing using engineered diamond structures.
Smart Port Automation and Maritime Infrastructure
The National Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways and Coasts (NTCPWC) at IIT Madras will demonstrate indigenous solutions designed to modernize India’s maritime infrastructure.
Its innovations include intelligent cargo handling systems, predictive maintenance technologies, IoT-enabled monitoring platforms, and digital twin solutions that support the objectives of Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
Building India’s Sovereign AI Ecosystem
IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation will present its efforts in developing a low-compute, domain-specific artificial intelligence ecosystem for India.
The foundation is creating energy-efficient Small Language Models (SLMs) designed to solve India-scale challenges while reducing computational requirements. This approach aligns with global interest in sovereign AI, sustainable computing, and localized AI solutions.
Strengthening India-France Innovation Partnerships
According to IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti, participation in Bharat Innovates 2026 is expected to create new opportunities for collaboration between Indian and French universities, research laboratories, startups, and industries.
Potential areas of cooperation include 6G research, technology transfer, startup partnerships, standards development, talent exchange programs, and shared innovation testbeds.
India’s Deep-Tech Future Takes Center Stage
Bharat Innovates 2026 represents a significant opportunity for IIT Madras to showcase India’s leadership in deep-tech innovation, strategic technologies, sustainable development, and research-driven entrepreneurship. Through its advancements in Hyperloop, telecommunications, AI, maritime technologies, and advanced materials, IIT Madras continues to strengthen India’s position as a global innovation powerhouse.
