IIT Guwahati to establish JEE in Bhutan

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT G) will be establishing a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) centre in Bhutan soon.

This is being done to encourage students from Bhutan to join the IITs in India. JEE will be opened as a part of Terms of Reference (ToR) signed between
Sherubtse College of Royal University of Bhutan and IIT G.

Sources point out that ToR was signed when a six member team from the college led by their president Tshering Wangdi visited IIT G from 28 to 29 October. ToR is aimed at promoting international academic cooperation and promoting exchange of teaching and research experiences between the two institutions.


Professor T.G Sitharam, Director, IIT G said they also encourage students from Bhutan to undertake full-time programmes or work as research interns in various departments at IIT Guwahati.’

Delegation also met various other faculty and officials of IIT Guwahati which included a meeting with the Chairman of the Joint Entrance Examination Cell on the issue of setting up a JEE test centre in Bhutan.

On 29 October the team visited the Centre for Environment, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Centre for Education technology, and the entre for Energy.

Various departmental and centre heads introduced their respective centres and organised lab visits for the visiting delegation. The delegation expressed a keen desire to send their faculty for higher studies in IIT Guwahati which all the departmental heads welcomed.
