Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi (IIT-Mandi) hosted the 17th annual conference of Indian Association for Social Sciences and Health (IASSH) in collaboration with School of Humanities and Social Science located on its premises.
The conference went on from 8 to 10 December and was jointly sponsored by Indian Council of Social Sciences and Research (ICSSR), United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), and International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS).
The conference successfully brought together experts from academic institutions, industries and research organizations and professionals to discuss and share their knowledge on the topic ‘Health, Gender and Development: Emerging issues and Challenges.’

Professor Timothy A. Gonsalves, Director, IIT Mandi, said IIT Mandi and IASSH share the same vision to work on the problems related to region and nation and to come up with practical solutions for the same.
This conference is an important milestone for both IIT Mandi and the School of Humanities and Social Science of IIT Mandi, he said.
Professor T.V. Shekhar, President, IASSH, said India’s health sector is experiencing tremendous changes in various forms. Novel research done by social sciences researchers are making a huge impact by helping the government in policy making.
This conference will be a stepping stone to bring together the policy makers and social sciences and health researches for better future collaboration, he said.
More than 150 research papers related to social and economic dimensions of health, food and nutrition security, climate change and health conditions, global public health development and sustainability were presented during the conference.
ICCMS 2019
IIT Mandi organised the seventh International Congress on Computational Mechanics and Simulation (ICCMS 2019) from 11 to 13 December 2019.
With an aim to bring together delegates from interdisciplinary domain of mechanics including civil engineers, mechanical engineers, aerospace engineers, materials engineers to discuss the mathematical models of physical real-life problems and their solutions, the biennial conference was organised under the auspices of the Indian Association for Computational Mechanics (IndACM).
Jointly sponsored by IIT Mandi, Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), ITASCA Consulting Pvt. Ltd., Dassault Systems, Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), and ENTUPLE Technologies among others, the international conference witnessed more than 230 participants from various national and international universities, research organizations and industries.
Professor Tarun Kant, Founding President, Indian Association for Computational Mechanics, and Emeritus Professor, IIT Bombay said the job of a researcher is to solve real-world problems and the description of these problems lead to complex mathematical models.
ICCMS 2019 aims to discuss the real-world problems and new directions in Computational Mechanics. ‘We have brought together experts from all around the world working in this complex field to share their knowledge with the young academicians and engineers, he said.
Professor Timothy A. Gonsalves said IIT Mandi is a flourishing member of the IIT system. Our faculty, students and alumni have carried the name of IIT Mandi throughout India and to distant corners of the world through their remarkable achievements.
