The 16th Chennai International Film Festival had yet another riveting experience on the fourth day as tales from across the globe painted the canvases with realistics masterpieces.Film enthusiasts, critics and other lovers of world cinema sprawled across Anna Salai to indulge in a fine share of critically acclaimed films on the international arena.

The packed audience for the German classic of the year, Western, the French movie At War and the Italian flick Dogman brought together true lovers of world cinema in the city in a tryst of their own. The Devi Theatre and SDC Anna Theatre witnessed packed audiences throughout the day, owing to some of the best films on display.

German filmmaker Valeska Grisebach’s Western won the hearts of the audience in the morning session as realistic moments of the Bulgarian outskirts in a German set-up mesmerized the audience aplenty. Several crucial frames in the screening was welcomed with applause as the movie appealed to the masses in several ways.

“The movie had a very boring start to be honest. But the way that mundane, monotonous depiction carried out the film throughout the two hours was amazing. The realistic approach was more real than ever”, said one of the delegates after the screening of the movie. Western had earlier received several acclaims across the globe throughout the year.

French and Italian movies At War and Dogman followed the screening through the afternoon at Devi Theatre. While the French film left to receive mixed reviews, the latter enthralled the audience with compelling storytelling.

“CIFF has pooled in a very exquisite set of films that invokes people to understand more about how filmmaking goes about around the world. It was also a great experience to delve into several cultures from different parts of the world,” says Sreedhar, a delegate who was part of the screening.
