Navy inducts fast interceptor craft at Nagapattinam

Nagapattinam was the cynosure of all eyes when Indian Navy inducted two fast interceptor crafts (FIC) on 11 December to enhance coastal security. Sources from Defence Ministry said, the FICs have been acquired by the Navy for the Sagar Prahari Bal created post 26/11 as part of coastal security construct.
The FICs, over the years, have established their efficacy in coastal security, as well as, force protection measures. The FICs do very high speeds and can operate in shallow waters.
Lieutenant Comander Harihar, officer in charge, naval detachment, Nagapattinam spoke about the present scenario of coastal security. Commodore Vidyanshu Srivastava, Naval Officer-in-Charge (TNP) and CSO to FOTNA formally announced the induction of the FICs.
The district collector of Nagapattinam said the induction was a  historical moment and assured cooperation with Indian Navy at all times. Personnel from district administration, Coast Guard, marine police, Port authority of Nagapattinam and Karaikal, customs, state costal security agencies were among those present.
