Sports bring glory to Southern Railway
Star performers felicitated
Southern Railway won the gold medal in 6 red snooker category defeating Eastern Railway. Southern Railway also won the bronze medal in the billiards championship defeating Western Railway. Dilip Kumar Won the silver medal in snooker championship.

Southern Railway cue sports (billards, snooker, 15 red and 6 red snooker) team received felicitations recently for their prize winning performance in 51st All India Railway cue sports championship held in Mumbai recently.
The Southern Railway team consisting of Rafath Habib (a gold medalist of Asian Games), Dilip Kumar, Peter Paul, Girish and Wasim Ahmed participated in the Championship for team event and individual championship Category. Southern Railway won the gold medal in 6 red snooker category defeating Eastern Railway. Southern Railway also won the bronze medal in the billiards championship defeating Western Railway. Dilip Kumar Won the silver medal in snooker championship.
While the team received felicitations from Southern Railway General Manager R K Kulshrestha, it is worth recollecting that Southern Railway has always been in the lead when it comes to encouraging sports. Southern Railway Sports Association gives active encouragement to sports persons in Southern Railway.
Sports persons recruited by Southern Railway participate in different tournaments and achieve success. P.T. Usha, M.D. Valsamma, Beenamol, K.Saramma, Joseph Abraham, Preeja Shreedharan, Tintu Luka, R. Chandrasekaran, T. Muthu, B. Adisekar, S. Sathish Kumar, Rafath Habib are among those who brought laurels to the country in their respective sporting arenas in inter-national level for Indian Railways and Southern Railway.
As on date, Southern Railway has four Padmashree, 29 Arjuna awardees and one Khel Ratna award winners on its rolls.
India was represented at the commonwealth games at Gold Coast, Australia (4-15 April) by Southern Railway sports persons namely, Rajapriyadarshini (Basketball), L.Surya (athletics) and S.Satish Kumar (weightlifting). S.Satish Kumar won the gold in 77 Kg category for the second year in succession. At the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September, Rajapriyadarshini, L.Surya, Minimol Abraham and S.Satish Kumar represented the country.
Coaches P.T.Usha (athletics) and C.R.Kumar (hockey-women) were also a part of Team India. Southern Railway’s star football Player Charles AnandRaj is a member of the Indian Railways Football team which has qualified for the final round of the USIC(World Railway Games) Football Championships to be held in 2019.
The qualifiers were held at Lalandia, Rodby-Denmark from 20-24 June 2018. In 2018-19, six sports persons have been granted Out of turn promotion and 10 sportspersons granted additional incentive increments for their outstanding achievements in sports.
