Social Media – Saviour in the dire need of the hour.

Social media platforms have become a requirement rather than a necessity. It has connected
people who are miles apart, educated the people, and also entertained them. Social media has
influenced our life in various aspects from spreading awareness to establishing a successful
business. It has also become the trusted and convenient platform to receive real news over the
traditional platform.

Social media in recent times have made it easier for celebrities to connect with their fans. Mostly
they use this as a medium to promote their movies and use it as a marketing tool to increase
their popularity. The content put forward by the celebrities in their social media not only
influences a majority of people but also creates a room to look into their lives. There are few
celebrities who have not only used their social media to promote their films but have also used it
as a tool to spread awareness, promote a social cause, bring positivity in the dark times, and
talk about the raising issues in society.

 

1.Sonakshi Sinha
This actress known for her work in Lootera and Dabangg has used social media as a platform to
raise awareness of cyberbullying. With the increased exposure to social media, cyberbullying
will be a constant threat. But Sonakshi Sinha took action against it, by launching an ‘ AB BAS’
campaign with the assistance of Pratap Dighavkar- Special IGP Maharashtra Police and
Mission Josh.
Being the victim of cyberbullying herself, Sonakshi Sinha’s prime agenda of this campaign was
focused on how trolls target others, especially women without the fear of the consequences.
During the campaign, she interacted with several reputed women in their respective fields. The
campaign successfully managed to set an example for trolls online when they arrest 27-year-old
Shashikant Jadhav from Aurangabad. Sonakshi Sinha confirmed the same with a statement
that read, “I am immensely grateful to cybercrime branch Mumbai for taking prompt action and
being so supportive. I took this step to report the culprits so that even others gather the courage
to do the same. Ab Bas, we will not watch and allow online abuse to happen to us or others. I
am extremely glad to be part of a campaign like this to help as many people as I can, who have
been subjected to online harassment.”
More campaigns like these are required since social media has become a prominent part of pur
lives.

2. Diya Mirza
This ‘Rehnaa Hain Tere Dil Main’ actress has been the face of several pivotal environmental
campaigns across India and raising her opinion regarding the need to take a stand for the
environment. During the lockdown, he started her own web series titled Down To Earth with
Dee, in which not only spoke to Bollywood contemporaries but also was a host to
environmentalists such as Vivek Memon, founder, and CEO of Wildlife Trust of India, and
Pradeep Sangwan, founder of Healing Himalayas foundation. She was appointed as the UN
Environment’s Goodwill Ambassador for India

3. Kartik Aaryan
The pandemic brought in a lot of negativity, and Kartik Aaryan was the only one actor who
focussed on the positive side through his social media. He came up with a new series on
Youtbe – Koki Poochega, in which he spoke with the heros of COVID-19 of pur country including
the doctors, social workers, policemen and people who fought and survived the fatal virus. He
also increased awarness among the common folk about coronavrius, which a dash of humor.
Apart from this his social media account is filled with several hilarious memes and even
coronavirus rap which brought a smile to peoples face.

4. Priyanka Chopra
This pandemic has effect a lot of business and entrepreneurs, especially those at the small
scale. Due to the financial slowdown, the small business owners are being eradicated from the
phase of the global economy. Seeing this situation Priyanka Chopra announced via her social
media page that she will promote small business founded by women each week from India and
the United States. “We all know that people around the world have been incredibly affected by
this pandemic, and that includes small business owners. My heart really breaks to see these
businesses shutting down or letting go of loyal, hardworking employees. So, I really want to
highlight some female-founded businesses that we can all support, and hopefully help them get
back on their feet” statement made by Priyanka Chopra in one of her video on her account. Until
now she has given shoutouts to variety of business ranging from handicrafts to fashion labels.

Social media has proven to be a saviour in the dire need of time and it has also been a evil to
the sociey. But it all narrows down to us – which contant are we choosing to promote and follow.
