Railway Protection Force (RPF) has humane side to it that is interested in saving people in distress. The other side of the force wreaks a havoc on the anti-social elements. Infodea went ahead to know more in this regard.
The good nature of RPF unit of Southern Railway was instrumental in reuniting more than 436 runaway children along with their families in 2018. Totally about 1603 children were rescued across Southern Railway and were either handed over to their families or to child protection homes last year, said Principal chief security commissioner Birendra Kumar.
He said about 441 children were saved in Chennai, about 249 children were rescued in Tiruchchirappalli, 101 children were saved in Madurai, 233 children were saved from Palghat. About 179 were saved from Trivandrum and 400 were rescued from Salem during 2018, he added.
The recued children’s numbers stood at 905 in 2017. This comprised rescue of 253 children from Chennai, 52 from Tiruchchirappalli, 72 from Madurai, 186 from Palghat, 98 from Trivandrum and about 244 from Salem. In 2016, 241 children were saved in Chennai and 59 children from Tiruchchirappalli, 60 from Madurai, 129 from Palghat, 72 from Trivandrum, 54 from Salem were also saved in the same year.
Awareness on children and women safety is high compared to the past, high awareness levels has helped them lend a helping hand to more children in distress, increased use of technology also has helped us crack down wrongdoing. We hope to reach more people in distress and aim for faster redressal of grievances.
