RPF makes us all proud

It is performing time for Railway Protection Force (RPF) it can be said. Financial year of 2018-19 has been a year of achievements for the force that protects railway property and passengers. 
According to sources, 1,13,992 defaulters were arrested under various sections of Railways Act in the financial year 2018-19 (upto March) and Rs 3,37,77,585 was collected as fine. The achievements for the force do not end there.
Sources further say, stern action was taken on those who tried to pull the chain and bring the trains to halt. About 1675 persons were apprehended under section 141 of Railways Act for indulging in chain pulling to stop the train without a valid reason. A fine amount of Rs 1,15,450 was realised in this regard, say sources.
The financial year also saw action against touts, unauthorised travel agents. About 269 of them were apprehended under section 143 of Railway Act for unauthorised selling of train tickets. A fine of Rs 5,83,400 was also realised in this regard.
Southern Railway unit of RPF assisted the commercial branch of Southern Railway in conducting ticket checking during the financial year of 2018-19 (upto March) and collected a fine amount of Rs Rs 12,86,65,618 through EFT.
About 6404 persons were apprehended under section
155 of Railways Act for entering into reserved coaches and compartments for differently abled persons when the force took measures to ensure safety for reserved passengers. A fine amount of Rs 14,60,800 was realised in this regard, say sources.
Drives for ensuring safety for women passengers saw apprehing of 3002 gents under section 162 of Railways Act for travelling in womens’ compartment and prosecuted with realization of fine amount of Rs 6,81,700. 
Action to protect railway property witnessed arrest of 532 criminals in 457 cases under RP(UP) Act and recovery of railway property worth Rs. 17,88,697 upto March in financial year 2018-19. RPFs’ timely help saved the lives of 12 persons. 
RPF seized gold ornaments weighing 9.155 kgs that valued Rs.9,10,03,438 with the arrest of six persons. Also arrest of another person led to apprehension of silver materials weighing 19.937 Kgs that valued Rs.7,97,000. Over 1921 runaway, destitute children have been rescued and handed over to their parents, child help line.
Also 101 missing women have been rescued and handed over to their relatives, law enforcing agencies concerned. ‘Operation Dignity’ was launched by RPF Southern railway in the financial year and this witnessed a rescuing of
264 destitute and homeless persons in trains, railway premises and handed over to various NGOs for their rehabilitation. The force look ahead in future with an objective of continuing its services with the same vigour.
