Environment gets a front seat

Environment got a big boost when Chennai division of Southern Railway observed World Environment Day. The celebration was organised at all major railway stations in the division, coaching depot, EMU car shed, Diesel Electric Loco Shed, Wagon depot and railway colonies.

Dr. M.G.Ramachandran central station was the place where  ADRM/I/MAS B. Elangovan administered the pledge on protecting environment to all staff. An exhibition on air pollution, which is theme for World Environment Day this year depicting ill effects of air pollution at Central station.

An awareness rally on air pollution was organised by the Central district Scouts and Guides and railway staff at Central station premises. Tree plantation was done by Officers at the same premises. 

A band sang songs highlighting the significance of World Environment Day and generated awareness on importance of clean atmosphere. Various environment initiatives under taken by Railways to develop 19 stations of Chennai Division as Eco-Smart stations was displayed at major stations.

At Chennai Egmore station tree plantation was done by Principal Chief Medical Director of Southern Railway and and station director of Egmore station. Tree plantation was also done at Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Katpadi and Jolarpettai stations premises also.

At Tambaram railway station an awareness rally on air pollution involving the Seva Bharathi Tamilnadu Association, students of Maharishi VidyaMandir Senior Secondary School (Medavakkam) railway employees took part.

Awareness rally on air pollution was organised at Jolarpet railway station. NCC cadets of Sacred Heart College of Thirupathur took part in that. Ill-effects of air pollution were explained through an exhibition at Katpadi station.
