Chennai division celebrates railway week

It was a moment for Southern Railway to celebrate, time was very special for Chennai division in particular as it ventured ahead with enthusiasm to celebrate 64th Railway week on 12 April.
Divisional railway manager of Chennai division graced the occasion as chief guest for the celebration. About seven gazetted officers and 481 staff of Chennai division were given awards for their meritorious and outstanding service.
Further, 51 group awards comprising of 551 staff were also distributed.
This year, Chennai division bagged the General Manager’s Shield for Inter Divisional Overall Efficiency as Runners-up (jointly with Palakkad Division). Chennai division has also bagged operating and engineering efficiency shields.
Medical efficiency shield has also been bagged by Chennai division and health unit in of this division received the honours for the being the best maintained health unit.
Railway Week is celebrated every year from 10 to 16 April to commemorate the first passenger train run on Indian soil from Bombay to Thane in 1853. R. Mukund, additional divisional railway manager welcomed the gathering and D.W. Samuel, senior divisional personnel officer proposed vote of thanks.
