Tamil Nadu state government signed an agreement with Microsoft
According to a study titled ‘India Digital Divide- How Broad Band Speed Splits the Nation’ by Ookla, in March 2018, Chennai has the highest fixed broadband download speed amongst 20 largest cities of India.

In February 2018, Tamil Nadu state government signed an agreement with Microsoft to improve the integration of technology in teaching and learning across the state. As per the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will adopt 7 schools identified by the Tamil Nadu state government.
According to a study titled ‘India Digital Divide- How Broad Band Speed Splits the Nation’ by Ookla, in March 2018, Chennai has the highest fixed broadband download speed amongst 20 largest cities of India.

In context of this news, it is important to note that in February 2018, India ranked 67th in the world on Speedtest global Index with fixed broadband average download speed at 20.72 mbps and broadband average download speed at 32.67 Megabits per second(Mbps). Chennai has topped the list and clocking 57.7% faster download speed than the average for the rest of the country.
On 5 the April 2018, the Tamil Nadu government launched Amma Free WiFi zones in 5 cities of the state. This scheme was announced by late Chief Minister J.jayalalitha in September 2016. It was set that WiFi zones will be set up in 50 spots, mainly in larger bus terminals, parks and commercial complexes. Users of Amma Free WiFi zones will be offered 20 minutes of free internet service per day. After that the users will be charged Rupees 10 per hour.
On 20th May, proposal for India’s next-gen defence aircraft was announced by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA). The ADA announced that India’s fifth generation aircraft could even replace the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and will take the government’s machine of ‘Make in India’ campaign forward.
On 8th June 2018, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated a 16MW solar pv power plant established by Bharat Electronics Limited(BEL) at the heavy Vehicle factory in Avadi. The plant will inject 110 kv power to Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation LTD sub -station.
On 16th July, the Indian Institute of Technology -Madras (IIT-M) launch a Microscope worth Rupees 40 crores claiming to be the world’s first remotely operable LEAP microscope which will allow precise view of atoms of material. On 23rd August 2018, Tamil Nadu chief minister K.Palanswamy launched an app and website on Plastic Pollution Free Tamil Nadu.
On August 17, commemorating its golden jubilee “ICRAFPT” the Indian institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT), Thajapur started an International Conference on ‘Recent Advances in Processing Technology’ till August 19th. On September 21st 2018, Tamil Nadu Government announced a scheme for the protection of exotic Neelakurinji ( strobilanthus kuthaianus ) plant in Nilagris district of Tamil Nadu. Neela kurinji is a notice to the Western Ghats.
