Doing wrong never pays,’ is the saying. This has turned true once again. The four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape case were issued death sentences. This has happened seven years after 23-year old Nirbhaya was raped and brutalised.

The wrong doers are scheduled to be hanged at 7 am on January 22. The ghastly incident that happened on 16 December in 2012 at Munirka in Delhi cannot go out of our memories easily.

Good deal of protests were seen in the national capital then. Protestors clashed with police and Rapid Action Force Units there. The protests did not remain restricted to New Delhi alone. All this showed the anger and impatience of a common man against growing crime.

In a twitter feed, the mother of the victim is said to have welcomed the sentence. ‘This execution will empower the women of the country. This decision will make the trust on the judicial system more strong,’ she said

Similar reactions have outpoured from many other people on Twitter. The courage of the victim’s praise came from Manisha Rajput. ‘Hats off to this mother. Despite all the obstacles, she did not lose hope. She struggle seven years to get her daughter justice,’ said Manisha.

But not all happened to be satisfied with this verdict. K. Ramanathan, a senior journalist said the verdict delivered need not mean justice has been done. Let us not forget it took about seven years for the wrong doers to get punished. And what is worrying is that the wrong doers can still appeal for mercy.’

Justice delayed is justice denied, said T.S. Prakash, a marketing executive with a pharmaceutical firm. The proof of this lies in the fact that it took seven years to get the justice, he said.

Now the convicts have two options. They can either move Supreme Court with a curative petition or send the President of India a mercy plea. The conclusions can be anything but a clear message must reach all that people who indulge in wrong doing will not be spared.
