Government of Tamilnadu engages in efforts inorder to remove the dissent of Migrant Labours

The Government of Tamilnadu is taking initiatives to help the Migrant workers in this course of Lockdown. TV Entertainment facilities are being arranged along with Yoga Training. Increased dissatisfaction among migrant laborers in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana at the shelter home forced them to come out of their homes on the road.

The Tamil Nadu Government has made a unique effort to stop the workers from getting on the road.

Since the lock down was announced , there were many migrants who were caught at the railway stations and bus stands. As soon as the Government came to know about this, they arranged for all these migrant workers to stay in the shelter home. Along with this stay here, food and essential commodities were also arranged.

In a specific conversation with the Infodea team regarding this, The Commissioner of Chennai Metropolitan Corporation Mr.G Prakash said that since the lock down was announced, all the laborers have been kept in 95 shelter homes in the City.

More than Six thousand migrant laborers are housed in these shelter homes which are from states like Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh etc. Along with giving food to these people, We do these medical checkups from time to time.

To keep these people busy, yoga training programs for them are also organized daily. Not only this, we have also arranged for TV in some shelter homes to entertain them, which will be gradually installed in all shelter homes. Ration is being arranged by The Greater Chennai Corporation.

Apart from this, there are about One Lakh such Migrant Workers who are living directly in the locality provided by their employer. We have been in contact with other organizations like CREDAI , Builder Association of India etc. which employ these laborers.

Mr.G Prakash says that The Hon’ble Chief Minister, Edappadi Palaniswami and Municipal Minister Mr. SP.Velumani personally learned about the maintenance of these migrant laborers from day one. The Chief Minister himself has visited many shelter homes in a surprise.

Mr. G Prakash also states that the lock-down period has been extended by 19 days and for a long time, they were getting news of the blackout of essential goods from some areas, so they started around 5000 push-carts and mobile shops in association with the Traders Association, so that Black Marketing can be Curbed.
