Prospects for media sector are bright in India, growth the field has witnessed is impressive. What has begun with allowing of Foreign Direct Investment during the regime of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi has culminated into media being one of the largest sectors in the sub-continent.
Media currently comprises over 80000 publications in the with 80 million copies as for as print is concerned, 500 TV channels, 150 radio stations and much more. Media are big businesses in India promoting economy, business and politics in a big way.
Impressive show of this segment is not restricted to economic front alone, but has spread to the social front also. Its role in modernizing the society cannot be neglected.

The launching of internet and information high way promises to bring people closer to modern technology and aim to empower people with new facilities and infrastructures. 
However, the role of media in shaping public opinion should not be considered as mere advise on according importance to issues. Media should be seen as an agency that helps people take right decisions. As more people migrate to urban parts of the country from the rural areas in near future, a greater role of media is seen. People looking forward for information to empower their lives will be more, needless to say, media will be the agency to give them the information they need.
