What happens on a birthday party? Singing happy birthday song and cutting the cake amidst clap from our dear ones is the usual visual. But here was a birthday celebration on August 25 that had everything different.

The birthday celebrations of founder chancellor of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) and member of Parliament from Perambalur T R Paarivendhar were different from the usual.

There was no cutting of cake singing of birthday song, but there was giving. About 100 computers were given to government schools in Perambalur on that day. Headmasters of the schools received the computers from T R Paarivendhar at T P Ganesan auditorium on SRMIST premises. Study materials were also given to children on the occasion.

Helping did not stop with that. Welfare schemes were announced for the employees of SRMIST. Employees who retire from SRMIST from now on will have PF, Gratuity, Life cover and National Pension Scheme (NPS).

Three families were given retirement benefits in recognition of their services to SRMIST. Scheme of planting one lakh saplings with a motive of conserving the environment was also announced during the celebrations.

Literary flavour ruled the roost when poets Arivumathi, Andalpriyadarshini, Ishaq recited poems. Giving out the birthday message T R Paarivendhar said hardwork is the key for being successful in life.

SRMIST pro vice chancellors R. Balasubramanian and T.P. Ganesan, N. Sethuraman, Registrar, SRMIST, C. Muthuselvam, director, engineering and technology, SRMIST and M Balasubramaniam, Director of Finance SRMIST and  filmmaker N. Lingusamy were among those present.
