DU Teacher Demanded 50-50 Formula for Final Year Students

As in news updates, about 106 teachers and professors of DU have written a letter to the examination head on Friday, opposing the proposal of Open Book Examination (OBE) for final year students.
Examination head of DU decided to conduct OBE for final year students because of coronavirus pandemic, but now a conflict is going on this topic because of a lack of teacher’s support and complications coming ahead in the process.
As of Thursday, it has been declared that undergraduate students of 1st and 2nd years will be promoted on the basis of 50% IA (Internal Assessment) and 50% on previous semester results. Teachers are now raising their concerns as well and are demanding the cancellation of OBE.
When asked by one of the DU teachers “As a unit, our college is also not in favor of conducting OBE. This is because of the problems being faced by the students due to internet connections and other issues. As teachers, we are always concerned about our students so we wanted some other formula to be followed other than the OBE. Be it 50-50 procedure or 75-25. But yes we were not in favor of this method.”
The decision for OBE which was about to start from July 1 is still pending because of lack of institutional help, uneven teachings, lack in consultation, etc.
According to research by DUTA (Delhi University Teacher’s Association), it has been found that only 50% of students were able to access online classes, study materials, and notes, 75% were working regularly and approximately only 25 % were able to attend online video call classes.
Network issue was one of the most common reasons for the above-written records. DU is a big University where students from all over the country like Jammu Kashmir, rural areas of Orissa, and Bengal and many more areas, where the internet is not regular and speed is minimal.
These students will be facing a big issue because of OBE decision and as this is the final year, the students are standing on a platform from where they have to design their future, and this OBE decision may get partial with many of them.
