Martyrs honoured, victory celebrated

Victory never comes so easy, only after great deal of struggle and sacrifice, does one get to embrace it. Kargil war fought between India and Pakistan 20 years ago proved the point. 

While India emerged victorious in that war, entire nation came together to celebrate the momentous 20th anniversary of it. Chennai also joined the stream to celebrate the momentous occasion.

Air Force station at Tambaram ventured ahead to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the war to mark India’s victory. Various events organised at the base located at southern part of the famed city showcased the courage, valor and sacrifices of the armed forces. 

The events were inaugurated by Air Commodore Man Singh Awana, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station, Tambaram. ‘Victory Run’ was conducted and it proudly witnessed the participation of all personnel of the station.

Inter school painting competition was organised at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 on the theme of ‘Kargil Victory’ and large number of students participated in the event with enthusiasm.

Static display of aircrafts, aircraft weapon systems, security and safety equipment were also set up to give the public an insight of the systems used by the Indian Air Force (IAF). 

It won the hearts of  students of KCG Engineering College, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Zion Metriculation and Higher Secondary School, Alwin Memorial Public School, Baal Vidya Mandir and Sri Narayana Mission Senior Secondary School. 

IAF personnel guided them to various displays and briefed them about the functioning. Students expressed their inquisitiveness by asking various queries regarding the aircraft and equipments displayed. Air Commodore Man Singh Awana interacted with students during the static display and encouraged students to join Air Force.
