Floods are rocking most parts of this nation, amidst this  our armed forces personnel are standing second to none in lending a helping hand. Work done by Indian Air Force (IAF) rescue team deserves a praise. The IAF rescue team swung into action soon after they got a call from Nilgiris district administration.

About 40 people were said to have been trapped on the northern side of Bhawani dam in Nilgiris owing to a landslide. Two Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) of Sarang team of IAF ventured ahead to take up rescue work, say sources.

While the first attempt to reach the disaster spot was not successful due to bad weather. The next attempt got them success. The captain of the rescue team realised that a family of four with two ill children was in need of help.

They were taken to Coimbatore and ensured medical care reached them. With the family now being moved to safety, the rescue team aims to take food and relief material on August 11.

While the above work was in Tamilnadu, IAF’s work extended into God’s Own Country also. The team took up survey work to estimate the flood situation in Malappuram. With the situation estimated, sources say now IAF is now ready to drop food supplies and take up rescue work.

While IAF is already in the action mode Indian Coast Guard (ICG) did not stay behind. They are engaged in rescue work in Kozhikode district and Malappuram district.

A 55 year old woman from Karassery in Kozhikode district in need of help was taken to a hospital. The things did not remain restricted to that. About 570 people are said to have been rescued till now by ICG rescue team.

Sources further say that to deal with the flood situation Coast Guard has  installed 10 teams in Kochi, three teams in Vizhinjam and one additional team at Beypore. Teams have trained personnel, lifeboats, life jackets.
